Okay so here's some backstory:

I was uber shy in highschool. I liked anime and I wanted to cosplay but I didn't because I was already made fun of enough and figured it'd get worse if I took on that hobby.

Towards the end of highschool I finally started to stick up for myself, and now, finally at age 21 I've just started cosplaying. My first cosplay was a rather simple one- school girl outfit, simple black wig, and I ended up buying the pieces and dying them to fit the colours. Either way, I was proud of it, and I didn't think it turned out too bad for a first try. But most of all I had FUN.

Now there is a small Con in November and several in the next couple years I'm looking forward to. I've met some awesome new friends who invited me and Eme-chan to join their newly founded cosplay group, and all was going well.

I have now gotten wind of people completely putting down our plans, dissing our physical appearances and putting words into our mouths about us "dominating the cosplay world" - WTF? We are beginners- we are trying to learn how to do this well, make friends and HAVE FUN. Never once did I say anthing remotely along those lines. And isn't having fun what this hobby is all about to begin with? I put off cosplaying long enough due to bullshit like this and here it comes again.

Our cosplay group isn't "copying" anyone by forming ourselves- there are hundreds of groups around the world who cosplay.... does that mean they are all copy cats too?

And yes, I may not be tanned, Horu isn't Asian, and Jisu may be a bigger cosplayer, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't cosplay who we want to. Adjustments can be made to make us fit the characters as much as possible. We aren't hurting anyone, so stop bitching about it.

You know things are screwed when people who dress up as cartoon characters starting making fun of other people who dress up as cartoon characters.... good luck out there in the real world. You're gonna get eaten alive.
